Copilot Chat (the free AI chat in your plan) answers questions using the web and files you point it at. Paid Copilot works inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, grounded in your company's own emails, files, meetings, and chats. Drafting documents from your data, summarizing your inbox, recapping meetings you missed: that's the paid tier.

Copilot only sees what each user already has permission to see, and Microsoft does not use your business data to train its models. One honest caveat: Copilot surfaces whatever permissions allow, so messy file permissions become visible fast.
